This is one of my favorites. Use a metal file and with the flat side, lightly tap the surface of wet clay. It will add some extremely realistic slate features to the outside. Form a lip at one end and press it with the drywall sandpaper to get a great texture for the fingers. I hope to make a whole set of holds from this design technique.
